Northwestern Mutual Named the 5th Best Place to Work in America by Glassdoor.com
Rank Reflects Work/life Balance, Career Opportunities, Communication, Fairness and Respect

MILWAUKEE, WI, Dec. 31, 2008 - Glassdoor.com®, a career and workplace community, is honoring Northwestern Mutual with its Employees’ Choice Award, naming it as one of the top 50 “Best Places to Work.”  Northwestern Mutual ranked first in the financial services industry and fifth overall in the survey.  In addition, President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Zore received a 98% approval rating from participating employees, one of the highest among CEOs featured on the list.

Unlike many workplace-related awards that require companies to self nominate, Glassdoor relies solely on the input from employees.  The honor is based on surveys collected from employees at more than 11,000 companies operating in the United States, addressing key workplace factors, including work/life balance, career opportunities, communication, compensation and benefits, employee morale, recognition and feedback, senior leadership as well as fairness and respect.

To view the full list, read the Glassdoor.com news release.

The Glassdoor announcement builds on momentum Northwestern Mutual has generated in recent months:

  • In October, Northwestern Mutual was named in Yahoo!'s HotJobs 100, a list of the top 100 companies that are currently hiring.
  • Northwestern Mutual received top honors in the life/health sector of FORTUNE magazine's "America's Most Admired Companies" survey for 25 years, including 2008. Northwestern Mutual is the only company to place first every year it was ranked.
