Northwestern Mutual Honored With UPAF Civic Partnership Award
Financial security company recognized for successful employee giving campaign to support the arts

MILWAUKEE, JULY 3 – In recognition of its unsurpassed corporate and employee support, Northwestern Mutual has received the Civic Partnership Award from Milwaukee’s United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF). The award was presented at the finale of the UPAF 2008 community giving campaign, which concluded in June, where UPAF and its many partners celebrated surpassing their goal by garnering more than $10.73 million in support.

The finale was held on Tuesday, June 24 at the Marcus Center for Performing Arts.

“One of the strengths of the Milwaukee region is its commitment to the performing arts,” said Edward J. Zore, president and chief executive officer of Northwestern Mutual.  “UPAF and its affiliate groups touch one million people every year, and I am very proud Northwestern's employees lead our community’s support for the arts.”

Each spring, Northwestern Mutual employees raise funds benefiting more than 35 local arts groups, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Milwaukee Ballet, Florentine Opera Company and Skylight Opera Theatre. UPAF also supports community outreach and special programming for children.

In 2007, Northwestern Mutual became the first company to surpass $1 million in total overall giving. Once again in 2008 Northwestern Mutual together with its Employees contributed more than $1 million to the UPAF campaign.  It remains the only company to surpass $1 million.

Northwestern Mutual is active in the community beyond its involvement in UPAF as well. As the largest corporate donor in Wisconsin, the Northwestern Mutual Foundation strives to inspire human potential through lifelong learning and community commitment with a focus on education, health & human services and arts & culture,. More than half of all gifts benefit the Milwaukee community, with 55 percent of total contributions going to local organizations.
